Trial of Andrew Johnson

This trial was actually the second attempt to impeach President Andrew Johnson following his controversial veto of the Civil Rights Act in 1867.  The impeachment trial which contended that President Johnson had violated the Tenure of Office Act lasted nearly three months and fell short of one vote required for conviction.
